Create karaoke-style captions

Use word-timed caption effects when subtitles should highlight speech as it happens.

Before using karaoke effects

Karaoke-style effects need useful word timing. Projects created with automatic subtitles are the most likely to have word-level timing available. Imported subtitle files may have only line-level timing.

Enable karaoke mode

  1. Open the project in the editor.
  2. Open the global style controls.
  3. Find the karaoke or active-word controls.
  4. Choose a karaoke mode such as sweep, instant, word flash, word build, or word style if available for the project.
  5. Adjust active-word colors, outline, shadow, or background.
  6. Preview several captions before exporting.

Quality check

  • If highlights feel late or early, review the caption timing first.
  • If a project has no word timing, use simpler line styling instead.
  • Avoid overly busy effects when captions are already dense.
  • Download or export only after previewing the exact saved caption state.
